Well, I finished my story for the Reverse Big Bang at originalbigbang tonight! My beta reader went over it already so I'm considering it done. I'll probably read it one last time before I send it off, since I've got the luxury of time. The deadline isn't until May 22nd.

I'm honestly really pleased with this one. It's written in a very, very different style from what I normally write, but it was just what flowed.

I had taken some general notes and was letting it percolate, but the characters weren't really gelling in my head. I didn't have a voice, or anything at all, except for a plot idea and a direction. But after a couple of days of no breakthroughs, I decided to just sit down and see what came out

Suddenly the main character (who is nameless, actually) just started talking. First person present tense, with some really outlandish similies peppering the whole thing, and a lot of sensory impact. I usually write in third person past, in a pretty unornamented style, and similes have always been a weakpoint of mine.

I don't know what happened, but I have a feeling I'll write this guy again, sometime.

Congratulations! I'd like to try my hand at a reverse big bang some day. It looks like fun.

I've never done it before! It was more challenging than I expected, partly because I had a hard time picking a piece of artwork that inspired me. There weren't as many choices as I thought there were going to be, and none of them immediately jumped out and started giving me ideas.

But in the end, I'm glad I picked the one I did. It definitely stretched me to come up with something, but there were a lot of elements to draw from.

Awesome! In perhaps a bit of synchronicity, I recently finished my story for bigbang_mixup (which is a reverse big bang with writers writing to song mixes--awesome), and it was different than I expected and also my beta already got back to me! So, yay for outside inspiration. Your story sounds like fun!

It was a lot of fun. I liked having a specific soundtrack to listen to and inspire me. I hope I have time to do it again next round.

It's probably something I would struggle with a lot, though I like the idea. I love listening to music when I write, but I have a really hard time picking out lyrics. I almost never associate specific songs with particular characters or anything like that.
